What does the consultation include?
A clinical exam of your teeth, bite and gums, an explanation of the treatment options that fit your case, the estimated time and the budget. If X-rays or records are needed, the doctor will let you know.
How long does orthodontic treatment take?
Many full treatments take 12 to 24 months; minor corrections can be shorter. The exact timeline is set at your consultation and depends on your case and on following instructions.
Braces or aligners: which is right for me?
Both can give excellent results. Braces offer maximum control and don’t depend on you remembering to wear them; aligners are removable and nearly invisible but must be worn 20–22 hours a day. The doctor will recommend the best option for your case and lifestyle.
When should my child first see an orthodontist?
A first check-up around age 7 is recommended. At that age, jaw-growth problems that are easier to correct while a child is growing can be detected.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt?
Placement doesn’t hurt. Pressure or mild soreness for a few days after placement and after each adjustment is normal; it usually passes on its own or with a common pain reliever recommended by the doctor.
Am I too old for orthodontics?
There’s no age limit as long as your teeth and gums are healthy. More and more adults get treatment, often with ceramic braces or aligners.
What if a bracket comes loose or I lose my retainer?
